Martijn van Exel

Hello and welcome to

I am Martijn van Exel. My usual internet handle is mvexel. I am not very active on social media; if you want to hear back, it's best to email me at martijn[at] Other places on the internet where I publish things:

If you're in the Salt Lake City area, find me at one of the meetups I organize: the Remote Worker's Lunch Hour (irregular) and OpenStreetMap Utah (monthly). Or drop me a line, I'm always interested in meeting new people.

Here's how to pronounce my name.

Work / Hiring me

My professional life is all about making maps and that's just the way I like it. I've loved maps since I was a kid, but really started to understand how they impact the world when I joined OpenStreetMap in 2007. You can read more about my activities in the OpenStreetMap community on my user profile there.

I am a freelance OpenStreetMap and open source geospatial software consultant and developer. If your organization needs to understand OpenStreetMap or use OSM data and software, you can hire me.

My resumé.
